Ketals
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006317
Organic compounds derived from ketones by the reaction with two equivalents of an alcohol, forming a geminal diether. They contain a central carbon atom bonded to two alkyl or aryl groups and two alkoxy groups. Ketals are stable in neutral or basic conditions but hydrolyze back to ketones in acidic environments.
