Acyl groups
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000215
Functional groups derived from carboxylic acids by removing the hydroxyl group, having the general formula R-C(=O)-. They consist of a carbonyl group bonded to an alkyl or aryl group. These groups are prevalent in organic chemistry and are found in compounds such as esters, amides, and acid chlorides.
