Silanes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010857

Compounds consisting of silicon and hydrogen atoms, analogous to alkanes but with silicon replacing carbon in the backbone. They have the general formula SinH2n+2 for linear and branched structures. Silanes are typically colorless gases or liquids, highly reactive, and find applications in semiconductor manufacturing and as reducing agents.
