Alkanes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000394
Acyclic saturated hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2, in which all carbon-carbon bonds are single. Chains may be straight or branched, and the ring-shaped analogues are called cycloalkanes, with the formula CnH2n. Alkanes are relatively unreactive and are primary components of natural gas and petroleum.
