Naphthenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013320
Saturated hydrocarbons whose carbon atoms form one or more rings, the petroleum-industry name for cycloalkanes, with alkylated cyclopentanes and cyclohexanes the most common. A simple monocyclic naphthene has the formula CnH2n. Naphthenes in naphtha are dehydrogenated to aromatics in catalytic reforming, for example methylcyclohexane to toluene.
