Acenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000120
A series of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in which benzene rings are fused in a straight line, with the general formula C4n+2H2n+4 for n rings. The series runs from naphthalene (two rings) through anthracene, tetracene and pentacene to longer, increasingly reactive members. Pentacene is used as an organic semiconductor in thin-film transistors.
