Polycyclic system
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009125
A molecular structure containing two or more closed loops of atoms, known as rings. The rings can be joined in several ways, including fused systems where rings share two adjacent atoms, bridged systems where they share two non-adjacent atoms, and spiro systems where they share a single atom. Naphthalene, with two fused benzene rings, is a common example of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon.
