Polyquinanes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013422

Polycyclic hydrocarbons built from fused five-membered carbon rings, called polyquinanes when saturated and polyquinenes when unsaturated. The simplest member is octahydropentalene, two cyclopentane rings sharing one bond, and larger examples include the unsaturated triquinacene and the cage compound dodecahedrane. Dodecahedrane, C20H20, has twelve five-membered rings forming a closed cage.
