Alkalosis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000393

A condition characterized by an increase in the alkalinity of the blood and other body fluids, meaning the pH rises above the normal physiological range of 7.35 to 7.45. This imbalance can result from either a decrease in carbon dioxide levels (respiratory alkalosis) or an increase in bicarbonate levels (metabolic alkalosis). Severe alkalosis can disrupt enzyme function and neurological activity.
