Hypercapnia

An abnormally elevated concentration of carbon dioxide in the arterial blood, resulting from inadequate ventilation. This condition leads to a decrease in blood pH, a state known as respiratory acidosis. Hypercapnia is clinically defined as an arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) exceeding 45 millimeters of mercury (mmHg).
