Hypercalcemia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005508
An abnormally high concentration of calcium ions in the blood. This condition arises when the rate of calcium entry into the bloodstream from bone resorption or intestinal absorption exceeds the rate of its removal by excretion or deposition into bone. Total serum calcium levels above 10.5 mg/dL (2.6 mmol/L) are considered hypercalcemic, though reference ranges can differ between laboratories.
