Calcification
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012938
The process by which calcium salts accumulate in body tissues, which can be a normal physiological process or a pathological one. Physiological calcification occurs in bone and tooth formation, providing structural rigidity. Pathological calcification, such as in atherosclerosis or certain tumors, involves abnormal deposition of calcium in soft tissues, potentially impairing organ function.
