Biomineralization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001300
The process by which living organisms produce minerals, often to harden or stiffen existing tissues. This involves the controlled deposition of inorganic solids within an organic matrix, such as calcium carbonate in shells or calcium phosphate in bones. The resulting composite materials exhibit unique mechanical properties.
