Calcium sink

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001571

A biological or environmental compartment that accumulates and retains calcium, effectively removing it from circulation or availability in other parts of a system. In organisms, bones serve as a major calcium sink, storing large quantities of the mineral. In ecosystems, certain soils or aquatic sediments can act as calcium sinks.
