Calcinosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012939
The abnormal deposition of calcium salts, primarily calcium phosphate and calcium carbonate, in soft tissues. This condition can be localized to a specific area or widespread throughout the body, affecting skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles, and internal organs. Calcinosis is associated with several metabolic disorders, connective tissue diseases like scleroderma, and can also be induced by exposure to certain toxicants that disrupt calcium and phosphate homeostasis.
