Anasarca
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000570
A condition of severe and generalized edema, characterized by the widespread swelling of subcutaneous connective tissue throughout the body. It results from the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the interstitial spaces, which can be caused by conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver failure (cirrhosis), or kidney disease. Unlike localized edema, anasarca affects the entire body, including the trunk and limbs.
