Hereditary angioneurotic edema
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005218
A rare genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe swelling (edema) in the limbs, face, intestinal tract, or airway. The condition results from a deficiency or dysfunction of the C1 inhibitor protein, a component of the complement system that regulates inflammation. Attacks are not associated with the urticaria (hives) seen in allergic reactions and can be life-threatening if swelling obstructs the airway.
