Swelling

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011711

The increase in volume of a material, typically a polymer or gel, due to the absorption of a solvent. This process occurs when solvent molecules penetrate the material's structure, causing it to expand. The extent of swelling depends on the compatibility between the material and the solvent.
