Responsive gel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010271
A gel that undergoes a reversible, discrete volume change or a sol-gel transition in response to a small change in an external environmental condition. These stimuli can include temperature, pH, ionic strength, light, or an electric field. The volume phase transition temperature is a specific temperature at which certain thermoresponsive gels, like poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), exhibit a dramatic collapse or swelling.
