Thixotropic gel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012018
A gel that exhibits thixotropy, meaning it becomes fluid when subjected to shear stress, such as stirring or shaking, and then returns to a gel-like state when the stress is removed. This reversible change in viscosity is due to the breakdown and reformation of the gel's internal structure. Many paints and drilling fluids are formulated as thixotropic gels.
