Shear viscosity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010806
A measure of a fluid's resistance to flow when subjected to shear stress, quantifying the internal friction between adjacent layers of fluid moving at different velocities. It is defined as the ratio of shear stress to shear rate. For Newtonian fluids, shear viscosity is constant, while for non-Newtonian fluids, it can vary with shear rate.
