Shear transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010805

A type of solid-state phase transformation that involves a cooperative movement of atoms or molecules, resulting in a change in crystal structure without long-range diffusion. This transition is often characterized by a change in the shape of the unit cell. Martensitic transformations in steels are prominent examples of shear transitions.
