Shear dependent viscosity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010800

A characteristic of non-Newtonian fluids where the apparent viscosity changes with the applied shear rate. This behavior can manifest as shear thinning, where viscosity decreases with increasing shear rate, or shear thickening, where it increases. Many polymer solutions and suspensions exhibit shear dependent viscosity, which is measured using a rheometer.
