Intrinsic viscosity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006041
The limiting value of the reduced viscosity of a polymer solution as the polymer concentration approaches zero. It is a measure of the hydrodynamic volume occupied by a polymer coil in a given solvent. This value is directly related to the molecular weight of the polymer through the Mark-Houwink equation, and is expressed in units of inverse concentration, typically deciliters per gram (dL/g).
