Relative viscosity increment
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010167
A dimensionless quantity equal to the viscosity of a solution minus that of the pure solvent, divided by the solvent viscosity, which is the same as the relative viscosity minus one. It measures how much the solute raises the viscosity and is the quantity traditionally called specific viscosity. Its usual symbol is ηi, and dividing it by the mass concentration of the polymer gives the reduced viscosity.
