Increment

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005764

A single portion of material taken from a lot in one action of a sampling device, such as one scoop or one pass of a probe. Several increments are combined to form the gross sample, which is then reduced and prepared for analysis. How large each increment is, and how many are taken, depends on how heterogeneous the material is.
