Homogeneity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013158
The uniformity of a property or constituent throughout a material. In the context of sampling, a material is homogeneous if any portion removed from it has the same composition as any other portion, within the bounds of analytical uncertainty. The required degree of homogeneity is dependent on the mass of the subsample taken for analysis; a material may be homogeneous for large samples but heterogeneous for smaller ones.
