Heterogeneous degradation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005246

A degradation process in polymers where the chemical or physical changes occur unevenly throughout the material, often starting at the surface or at specific localized sites. This can lead to a non-uniform reduction in mechanical properties and mass loss. It contrasts with homogeneous degradation, where changes are distributed uniformly.
