Heterogeneous photocatalysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005248

A catalytic process where light energy drives a chemical reaction at the surface of a solid catalyst, which is in a different phase from the reactants. The catalyst absorbs photons, generating electron-hole pairs that initiate redox reactions. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a widely used heterogeneous photocatalyst.
