Catalyst photoactivation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001708

A change in a material's catalytic behaviour brought about by exposure to light, creating or modifying its activity or selectivity. In the usual sense the catalysed reaction itself runs in the dark after the illumination has stopped, for example when light converts a precatalyst into its active form. This separates it from photocatalysis, in which the catalyst works only while it absorbs light.
