Catalyst decay
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001707
The decline over time in the activity or selectivity of a catalyst during a chemical reaction. This loss of performance can result from several mechanisms, including poisoning by impurities in the feed, fouling by coke or other deposits, thermal degradation, or mechanical loss of the catalytic material. Catalyst decay is a major consideration in industrial processes, requiring periodic regeneration or replacement of the catalyst.
