Catalyst ageing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001706

A loss of activity caused by alteration of the catalyst's own structure or texture, such as sintering of metal crystallites, collapse of pores or a phase change in the support. Such changes are irreversible in most cases, so activity cannot be restored by regeneration, in contrast to deactivation by coke deposition, which is removed by burning.
