Coking

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002196

The formation of carbonaceous deposits, known as coke, on the surface of catalysts or other materials, particularly at high temperatures. This process typically occurs during hydrocarbon processing and can lead to catalyst deactivation by blocking active sites or pores. The rate of coke formation depends on factors such as temperature, pressure, and reactant composition.
