Fluid coke

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004512

A type of petroleum coke made in a fluid coking unit, where heavy residue is sprayed onto hot circulating coke particles in a fluidized bed and cracks to deposit layers of carbon. The product consists of hard, nearly spherical grains with an onion-like layered structure. It is more isotropic and less graphitizable than delayed coke, so it is a poor filler for graphite products, and its volatile matter is about 6 percent by mass.
