Coke

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002194

A solid, carbonaceous residue produced by the destructive distillation or pyrolysis of coal, petroleum, or other organic materials in the absence of air. It is primarily composed of carbon with varying amounts of ash and residual volatile matter. Coke is widely used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in metallurgical processes, particularly in blast furnaces for iron production.
