Char

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001878

A solid, carbonaceous residue formed from the incomplete combustion or pyrolysis of organic materials, such as wood, coal, or biomass. It consists primarily of carbon, with some residual ash and volatile matter. The properties of char, including its porosity and carbon content, depend on the starting material and the conditions of its formation, such as temperature and heating rate.
