Characteristic electron energy losses

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001879

Specific energy losses experienced by electrons as they pass through a material, resulting from inelastic scattering events with core-level electrons or plasmons. These energy losses are unique to the elemental composition and chemical environment of the sample. Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) measures these losses, providing elemental identification and chemical state information, typically in the range of 0 to 2000 eV.
