Soot
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011056
A finely divided, black, carbonaceous material produced by the incomplete combustion of organic matter, such as hydrocarbons. It consists primarily of amorphous carbon particles, often aggregated into chains or clusters, and can contain adsorbed organic compounds. Soot is a major component of particulate matter in air pollution.
