Variable
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012514
A quantity or characteristic that can assume any one of a set of values. In chemical analysis, variables can be either controlled, such as temperature or concentration of a reagent, or observed, such as the absorbance reading or reaction yield. A distinction is made between a random variable, which is subject to chance, and a non-random variable, which is fixed or deterministic in an experiment.
