Variable gene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012515
A segment of DNA that encodes the variable region of an immunoglobulin or T-cell receptor protein. These genes undergo somatic recombination with diversity and joining gene segments to generate the vast diversity of antigen-binding sites. There are multiple variable gene segments in the genome, contributing to immune repertoire diversity.
