Antigen receptor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000682

A specific protein molecule on the surface of a lymphocyte that binds to a particular antigen, initiating an immune response. In B lymphocytes, the antigen receptor is a membrane-bound antibody molecule, while in T lymphocytes, it is the T-cell receptor (TCR). The vast diversity of these receptors is generated through a unique process of somatic recombination involving variable (V), diversity (D), and joining (J) gene segments.
