Antigen processing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000681

The intracellular biochemical pathways by which protein antigens are degraded into smaller peptide fragments suitable for binding to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. These peptide-MHC complexes are then transported to the cell surface for presentation to T lymphocytes. This process occurs in both the cytoplasm for MHC class I and in endosomal compartments for MHC class II.
