T lymphocyte

A type of white blood cell, specifically a lymphocyte, that matures in the thymus gland and is a central component of cell-mediated immunity. These cells recognize and respond to specific antigens presented on the surface of other cells. T lymphocytes include helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, and regulatory T cells.
