Major histocompatibility complex molecule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006932
A cell surface glycoprotein encoded by the major histocompatibility complex gene family, responsible for presenting processed antigens to T cells. These molecules are highly polymorphic, creating a wide diversity of antigen-presenting capabilities within a population. The recognition of these molecules as foreign (alloantigens) is the primary cause of transplant rejection between genetically different individuals.
