Major histocompatibility complex

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006928

A set of genes encoding cell surface glycoproteins that bind peptide antigens and present them to T lymphocytes. This presentation allows the immune system to recognize and respond to foreign pathogens or abnormal cells. In humans, the major histocompatibility complex is known as the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) system, located on chromosome 6.
