Antigen presentation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000680

The process by which certain immune cells, known as antigen-presenting cells (APCs), display fragments of antigens on their surface for recognition by T lymphocytes. The antigen fragments, or peptides, are bound to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. Class I MHC molecules present endogenous antigens to cytotoxic T cells, while Class II MHC molecules present exogenous antigens to helper T cells, initiating an adaptive immune response.
