Major histocompatibility complex restriction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006933

The requirement that a T lymphocyte can only recognize and respond to a foreign peptide antigen when it is presented by a specific major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule. Cytotoxic T cells recognize antigens presented by MHC class I molecules, while helper T cells recognize antigens on MHC class II molecules. This specificity is established during T cell development in the thymus.
