To prepare an immune system for a stronger, more rapid response to a subsequent exposure to an antigen. This involves the initial encounter of naive lymphocytes with an antigen, leading to their activation, proliferation, and differentiation into effector and memory cells. Priming can occur naturally during infection or through vaccination.
