Peripheral lymphoid organ

A specialized tissue structure where lymphocytes encounter antigens and undergo activation, proliferation, and differentiation into effector cells. These organs include the lymph nodes, spleen, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT). They are distinct from primary lymphoid organs like the thymus and bone marrow, where lymphocytes mature.
