Primary lymphoid organ

An anatomical site where lymphocytes originate and mature into immunocompetent cells. These organs are responsible for the initial development and differentiation of immune cells before they circulate throughout the body. Examples include the thymus, where T cells mature, and the bone marrow, where B cells mature and all lymphocytes are produced.
